Russia and Ukraine agree prisoner swap

Delegations from the Russian Federation and Ukraine have concluded negotiations in Istanbul on May 16. The two sides agreed to exchange one thousand prisoners of war on each side in the coming days. They also agreed to continue talks on ending the conflict, IPN reports.

Following the meeting, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, said they discussed the ceasefire, the exchange of prisoners and a possible meeting between Presidents Volodimir Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin, the BBC reports.

The Russian delegation said it was ready to continue the talks, but also that the two sides would prepare and present their visions for a future ceasefire.
