The entry ban to Romania, applied to three citizens of the Republic of Moldova, including the mayor of the capital Ion Ceban, was enforced for reasons of national security. The statement belongs to the Romanian foreign minister, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova. According to her, the measure applies throughout the Schengen area, based on international regulations, reports IPN.
“As for details regarding the justification of this decision, for us national security prevails and it is up to the institutions, which deal with national security, to provide additional details. At this stage, it is not the case”, Oana-Silvia Toiu stated in a press conference, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau.
Just a day ago, the mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, announced that he intends to take the Romanian Foreign Minister to court, in the context of previous statements made. In his opinion, these are “hallucinatory and do not correspond to reality, violating any protocol and diplomatic norms”.
Two weeks ago, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Ion Ceban, along with two other citizens of the Republic of Moldova, is banned from entering Romanian territory. The names of the other two individuals have not been disclosed. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited reasons related to national security considerations.
